Speedtouch 510 v4 DHCP Spoof Guide

Spoofing works by intially connecting to the router via DHCP on its normal 10.0.0.138 IP address, you get served an IP address like 10.0.0.1 or similar. Then once the Internet Connection has authenticated the true Internet IP address is presented to a single computer.

By its nature this means just one computer can be online at any time, in fact it is preferrable to just have one computer connected to the SpeedTouch to avoid the DHCP picking a different computer each time.

In theory it should be possible to use this mode to present the IP to a wireless access point or similar router (e.g. Smoothwall box).

How to do it

Best route is to initially reset the 510v4 back to its default configuration, and ensure you can see the router at http://10.0.0.138/.

Next check that you are getting assigned an IP address dynamically from the router, on your computer look at the network connections window and check that both the IP and DNS options are set to automatic as shown below.

The next step is to upload the DHCPSpoof.ini configuration file use the supplied software CD and select the file from the Setup folder if it is present, or download the file and tell the software you Have a Disk and browse to where the file was downloaded. Alternatively you can use the web configuration tools to do the same e.g.

Now click the Upload button, and the router should upload the new configuration and present the screen

Click Accept and the router should think for a few seconds and then return you to the web based setup.

Checking its working and making use of DHCP Spoofing

Once the configuration is on the router browse to http://10.0.0.138/ and view the BASIC | CONNECT window e.g.

On first viewing this page the username and password will be blank, enter your ISPs username and password e.g. fred@ISP.ABC. Once you've entered the password it is often best to click Disconnect and Connect again to ensure it is using the new username password. If the router has connected Link should say Connected and Status should be UP.

Getting the IP Address on your Computer

Now the router is online you need to get the Internet IP address to the computer, from a DOS command prompt (in XP to open this do START | RUN | CMD) type IPCONFIG if this shows an IP address like 10.0.0.1 then type

IPCONFIG /RENEW

the computer will think for a few seconds and it should return with a full Internet IP address as shown here. In the example shown I got the error since I had a number of network cards on the PC, but you can see it did renew the LAN IP address to give my full Internet IP address.

You are now online on the Internet. To check ping 212.23.8.1 or similar should show you are online. Remember there is no security provided by the 510v4 in this mode.
